New Chapter as Ocean Grove SC
Hi all,
Over the next short while you may notice “Surfside Waves Soccer Club” replaced with “Ocean Grove Soccer Club”. This is still us, and all operations procedures remain the same.
This decision was a difficult one, but an unavoidable one. Our current committe battled with the ATO, MyGoV and ASIC over the business registration and trying to update details. Essentially we were locked out of any online platforms and unable to lodge the necessary annual paperwork required of a non-profit organisation. The advise we received from The ATO and Football Victoria was to reregister a new ABN. We did this as Ocean Grove Soccer Club.
Our club badge has been designed to evolve with the new name but does not have significant changes. It still pay homage to the “waves” in its design and the year of foundation being 1996. Our club nickname will remain “Waves” and we will not be changing colours or any other details regarding the constitution, or the way we operate.
There are a few significant benefit of this change as we are a “new” club.
1. we are able to target grants we may have otherwise been ineligible for previously or applied for unsuccessfully.
2. we will no longer be mistaken for SurfCoast FC.
3. opposition teams will know where they’re going when looking at fixtures!
4. better sponsorship opportunities for Ocean Grove, Bellarine and Geelong businesses knowing what community they’re sponsorship is supporting.
While this may come as a surprise to many and a disappointment to the older members of our club, we see this as a positive and progressive move forward for Ocean Grove Soccer Club.
The season has started really positive and let’s continue!
