Ocean Grove Soccer Club (OGSC) Statement
Ocean Grove Soccer Club (OGSC) Statement
Earlier this year, Ocean Grove Soccer Club (OGSC) received a complaint against Craig Wright, accusing him of bullying, harassment, providing false information, and fostering an unfriendly environment within one of our senior teams. As a result of these allegations, Craig made the decision to step down from his position as president, despite this being against the wishes of the committee.
We acknowledge that the handling of this situation has taken longer than we would have liked. After a thorough review, OGSC has determined that the complaints lacked substantial evidence. However, we recognize there was a breakdown in communication, which was not well-managed by anyone involved. OGSC has met with all parties individually, and while mediation was attempted, we were unable to bring all parties together. Nonetheless, we have taken important steps to prevent such situations in the future, including the implementation of new policies for social media and group communications, appointing a Member Protection Officer, and updating our constitution (pending AGM approval). Our website has also been updated accordingly.
Craig’s contribution to the club has been nothing short of exceptional. His achievements include overseeing the club’s name change to Ocean Grove Soccer Club, securing 1-star accreditation under the Club Changer program, establishing a women and girls action plan and subcommittee, developing master plans for our future facilities, and fostering cooperation between multiple users of the Shell Road facilities. Additionally, Craig has continuously volunteered his time coaching and assisting behind the kiosk/bar.
This level of dedication to our club and community, especially in a volunteer role, is rare and greatly appreciated. We fully support Craig and would be pleased to welcome him back to the club in any capacity he chooses to continue. Should you need any further information regarding this matter, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Ocean Grove Soccer Club
